AWS Data Lake Day

For the hands-on portion of todays event, we have two different labs that you can select from (or, if there is enough time, you can do both).

Option 1: Building a data lake with Lake Formation & using a Glue dev endpoint to develop ETL code
This lab provides hands-on experience with Lake Formation, including using Lake Formation Workflows to ingest data from a database and managing permissions for the data lake with Lake Formation permissions. It also gets you hands on with querying data with Athema, configuring Athena Workgroups, developing complex ETL code with Glue development endpoints, and visualizing data with Amazon QuickSight.

Option 2: Building an event-driven data lake
In this lab you will create an event driven data lake. You will configure an ETL pipeline so that when a file is written to S3 it triggers a Glue crawler to add the new data to the Glue catalog, and then triggers a Glue ETL job that converts the data to Parquet. You will then get hands on with querying the data using Amazon Athena, and visualizing the data with Amazon QuickSight.
